Students will have a post test in Reading this week. In writing we will finish editing and revising our drafts before publishing them by the end of the week. Math: We just finished up our addition and subtraction unit! Once your child is done with their unit test, some classes needed an extra day to finish up their exams, we will begin our unit on Multiplication! In writing we are onto the conclusions of our true stories! Math: We are currently working on finishing up our Unit of Additon and Subtraction! We will be taking our Unit test this Friday! Last week we focused on Mechanical Energy, with building cars. This week will be taking a look at Light Energy and the difference between light and thermal. Social Studies: This week we are working on map skills. We will be analyzing how to use a legend, map scale, and compass rose. We are focusing on identifying character traits using text evidence, making connections to our reading, and predicting. We will also continue in our unit of "Crafting True Stories". We will begin to organize our writing, and work on incorporating a strong Lead into our writing. Be sure to ask your child about their story that they are crafting in class. Math: This week we are working on subtraction strategies. We have learned three important strategies when solving subtraction; decomposing, numberline, and using place value blocks. Please see the helpful videos if you would like to practice these at home in the math tab. We are continuing to work on subtraction word problems! Science: We are focusing on different forms of ENERGY! This is an exciting unit with lots of motion! Be sure to ask your children what they did in science today, it is jammed pack with exciting labs including MysteryScience! Social Studies: We are continuing our positive action kits and modeling what this means to make positive actions while also continuing our unit on good citizenship. This week we will be studying our Constitution and learning the importance it has in the past, present, and future. Homework: NO HOMEWORK NIGHT ON WEDNESDAY! We will be using textual evidence and connecting through accountable talk. We will be working on abbreviations in word study. In writing we are continuing focussing on crafting true stories. Math: Last week we finished our unit on Place Value. This week we will be focusing on addition and different strategies that help us when adding three digit numbers together. Please refer to the Addition Videos of Decomposing Numbers, Standard Algorithm and Numberline Strategies. Please remember that these strategies are to help your child with understanding numbers and having true number sense. Science: We will be continuing our unit on "States of Matter". We will begin our project on Popplet, Paper53, or Google Slides. Social Studies: We are continuing our positive action kits and modeling what this means to make positive actions while also continuing our unit on good citizenship. We are focusing on Hellen Keller, Ruby Bridges, Clara Barton, and Harriet Tubman that made impactful differenece in our history.
