Students will continue to demonstrate "Reading is Thinking" skills by making predictions, visualizing what the author is saying, and summarizing the main events and details. We will also continue our persuasive writing unit. Students will work on drafting their persuasive letters. The goal is for our letters to be completed by the end of the week. Math: Students will learn 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication this week. We will learn about the partial products method of multiplication. Science: This week will be focusing on force, motion, and energy. Students will observe how the force of gravity acts on objects. They will be engaging in an egg drop challenge. Social Studies: Students will read and learn about individuals that have helped shaped our communities. We will focus on Benjamin Banneker, Pierre-Charles L'Enfant, and Benjamin Franklin. Students will create biography cards on each person as well as a chatterpix. Students will continue to demonstrate "Reading is Thinking" skills by making predictions and visualizing what the author is saying. We will also begin our persuasive writing unit. Students will engage in various persuasive read alouds. We will work together identifying the topic, audience and delivery of the persuasive text. Math: We will begin this week with multiplication properties (Commutative, identity, distributive). We will then be introducing division and how it relates to multiplication, showing equal groups and fact families. Science: This week will be looking at how position and motion can be changed by pushing and pulling objects. Students will focus on objects such as swings, balls, and wagons. Social Studies: We are finishing up our Natural Resources Unit by learning how reducing, reusing, and recycling helps our Earth. We will also continue our Positive Action Program and students will learn how to have a good self-concept by focusing on what makes them happy.
